FACT CHECK

ALAN KYEREMATEN DID NOT RESIGN FROM THE NPP

Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen is an undisputable gentleman, an intelligent man who made it to Adisadel College at the age of 9, an economist, a lawyer, a diplomat, an international consultant, and an expert in international trade who once vied for the leadership of the World Trade Organization and has been re-appointed as the Minister of Trade and Industry in Ghana.

With Alan’s Versatility, I believe strongly that he will be the president to lead Ghana into the next level of industrialization, which will provide more jobs and cash for many young people.

However, some people who doubt their ability to beat Alan (a Founding Member of the NPP) in a fair and open contest have resorted to peddling falsehood and innuendoes about him. One of these falsehoods is the half-baked accusation that Mr. Kyerematen resigned from the NPP in 2007.

Kindly permit me to share with you my pen of truth about this saga.

Alan has been loyal to the great NPP since 1992 when the party was founded.

In 2007 when he contested His Excellency Nana Addo for the party’s flagbearership, no clear winner was found, so there had to be a run-off. However, Alan did what most politicians would not do by accepting that Nana Addo should be the party’s flag bearer in 2008 to lead the elephant party.

Such a political gift for peace can be given only by the pure heart, which Alan exhibited.

Admittedly, Alan Kyerematen did inform the party of his intention to resign to reunite the party. This was at a time that his supporters were being humiliated, insulted, and beaten up after the 2007 Legon Congress, where he graciously stepped -down for Nana Addo to be the flag bearer, as stated earlier. Some of his supporters were nearly lynched verbally, and some others were vilified, maligned, and oppressed by their party brothers.

However, Alan’s letter of resignation was rejected by the party’s executives, and the issues he raised were immediately addressed to restore peace. Presently, there is no official document at the party secretariat to prove that Alan did resign. Besides, the NPP’s Constitution states clearly that any member who resigns from the party can only contest the party’s primaries after five (5) years. Alan was allowed to contest the 2010 primaries, an indication that he never resigned.

It is, therefore, remarkable that instead of praising Alan, a few people in the NPP have made it their mission to run him down at every opportunity by claiming that Alan resigned.

Only a few people will say that for the interest of a party, they will step down and refuse to contest in a run-off for a fellow contestant to be flagbearer and then after that, appeal to the party that for the interest of his supporters, he will put his ambition down so that no one will suffer because of Alan.

Though I have more to add, I wish to rest my pen here and thank you for reading.

We are all involved in building our motherland.
